Program Overview

Program Overview

The Pharmacy Technician Certification Program prepare students to learn everything from anatomy and physiology to pharmacology, patient interaction, and more. You'll also have the opportunity to gain practical experience through our on-site clinical rotations, where you'll work with licensed pharmacists and patients in real-world settings. This hands-on approach to learning will give you the skills and confidence you need to succeed in this exciting field.


Clock Hours

The Program consists of a total of 400 Clock Hours

  • 180 Didactic Clock Hours

  • 80 Simulation Hours

  • 140 Clinical Hours

National Board Examination Pass Rates 85% (based on 2022 assessments)

Admissions Requirements

Applicants must be 18 years of age to apply and be admitted to the Pharmacy Technician Training Program. 


  • Applicants must take a reading comprehension and math assessment test prior to course enrollment. Passing score of 70% or higher required.


  • Registered Pharmacy Technician Trainee with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy


  • Applicants must be either attending high school, possesses a high school equivalency certificate, or is a high school graduate


  • Applicant must have demonstrated English language proficiency (including reading, writing and speaking)


  • Pass Criminal Background Check and Drug Test for Clinical Requirements

Basics of Pharmacy Course

This course provides students with the basic foundation and principles of becoming a Pharmacy Technician. As a certified pharmacy technician, you are the liaison between medical professionals, doctors, pharmacists, insurance companies and patients. You will receive and verify prescriptions and prepare patient medication. Topics discussed includes but is not limited to ; inventory, healthcare ethics and privacy, prescription filing process, federal regulations affecting pharmacy, role of pharmacy technician, routes of administration, compounding, aseptic techniques, brand and generic drugs, SIG codes, billing and insurance claims for prescriptions. The course also prepares students for practice as Entry-level pharmacy technicians according to ASHP standards in a variety of contemporary settings (e.g., community, hospital, home care, long-term care) and has students acquire knowledge, skills, behaviors, and abilities needed for such practice.

Pharmacy Calculations Course

This course presents the essential math calculations and skills used by the Certified Pharmacy Technician. Course topics include; conversions, measurements, drug preparations, and applications of equations required for IV delivery, unit doses, and preparation of solutions for adult and pediatric populations. Students will have the opportunity to practice these calculations and skills through a variety of exercises and real-world pharmacy calculations. By the end of the course, students will be able to confidently perform all the necessary math calculations required of pharmacy technicians

Our experienced instructors will guide you through a comprehensive curriculum that covers everything from anatomy and physiology to pharmacology, patient interaction, and more. You'll also have the opportunity to gain practical experience through our on-site clinical rotations, where you'll get to work with licensed pharmacists and patients in real-world settings.

Our Program equips students with the knowledge and skills to excel on the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination and become a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). Blending essential elements of medicine, math, and chemistry, our program provides comprehensive preparation for the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Exam."

Clinicals Overview

Students will be instructed on how to safely and accurately handle medications, how to fill prescriptions under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist
